COURSE FOR BAKERS

RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN INDUSTRY

Arrangements have been made for the starting of a technological course for bakers to be held in association with the Wheat Research Institute in C hristchurch.

This was one item of a programme of educational work mentioned in a letter from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research read at a meeting of the council of the Canter! ury Manufacturers’ Association last evening. The letter said that the manufacturers' research committee working in liaison with the department, was extremely interested in technological courses at technical schools. Proposals for industrial recearch fellowships had been examined in great detail by the committee which had unanimously reaffirmed its sunuort for them. Mention was made of the industrial activities for manufacturers of the department end in particular the new Canterbury College Industrial Development Division, which was now working and was in a pos’tion to undertake projects for manufacturers The services offered at Canterbury college were unique in New Zealand said the chairman of the meeting (Mr F. C. Penfold), who urged manufacturers to take full advantage of its facilities.
