LONG BICYCLE RIDE

SCHOOLBOY’S VISIT TO LIBRARY "The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, Jan. 9. Kenneth Schwabe, a 16-year-old schoolboy, of Dannevirke, recently made his third 69-mile round trip by bicycle simply to consult a book in the reference department of the Palmerston North Municipal Library. Kenneth Schwabe is an enthusiatsic builder of model aeroplanes, and the object of his trips to Palmerston North was to obtain information from “Jane’s Aircraft,” no copy of which is kept in the Dannevirke Library. He intends to make several more such trips during the school holidays to obtain as much information as possible to aid him in his model-building in the coming year. He made light of his long ride, saying that in the present weather conditions the trip was a pleasure. On one o( his previous trips he did the journey both ways in pouring rain. He is not the only meanber of his family who solves his travel problems by bicycle. Yesterday his father and mother, and his nine-year-old brother, Ronald, all came to Palmerston North for the day, and an rode their bicycles to the city. For the younger ooy. the return trip seemed rather too much, so, with his parents, he went home by train.
