OUTBREAK OF PARALYSIS
DATE OF REOPENING OF SCHOOLS DECISION TO BE MADE LATER No decision would be made until the end of January about the reopening date for schools, said the Minister of Education (Mr T. H- McCombs) yesterday. During the last month rumour had been rife that schools would not reopen until the middle of March, but such rumours were no more than idle gossip, Mr McCombs said. There had been no additional suspect cases of poliomyelitis during the week-end, said the District Medical Officer of Health (Dr. J. H. Blakelock) yesterday. NO CASES REPORTED AT AUCKLAND BOY DIES AT WAIKATO (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 11. No further cases of infantile paralysis were reported in the Central Auckland health district during the weekend, and no suspected cases were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. A boy aged 13, from Horotiu, who was admitted to the Waikato Hospital last Monday, died during the weekend. This was the second fatal case in the South Auckland health district. The first victim was a child of three months from Taupiri, who died on Friday. NO FURTHER CASES "AT WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 11. Wellington was free from infantile paralysis during the week-end. No cases, either suspected or positive, were reported yesterday or to-day.
