MONARCHY IN BELGIUM

GOVERNMENT POLICY APPROVED LONDON, December 10. "The Belgian Chamber of Deputies, after a stormy debate, gave the Government a strong vote of confidence , on its method of dealing with the controversial issue of the monarchy,’ says the Brussels correspondent of the British United Press. “The session was suspended for half an hour after a scuffle among some of the deputies. “The Prime Minister (Mr Spaak) emphasised that the problem was not one of King Leopold’s honour; it was a Political problem. King _ Leopold had misinterpreted the Belgian Constitution during the war, and had understood ‘otherwise than we did, his duties towards the Allies.’ “The Government, if given a vote of confidence, would try to find a formula which would allow negotiations with King Leopold to continue.

A resolution proposing that the United States should limit visits by Russians to the number of Americans the Soviet is willing to receive was introduced in the Senate to-day by Senator Styles Bridges.
