CURRENT NOTES
At the annual meeting of the Christchurch Presbyterian Sunday School Teachers’ Union, held in St. Paul’s Bible class rooms, the following officers were elected; president. Mr Eric Walker; vice-presidents, Mrs Fehsenfeld, Messrs J. McDiarmid, H. F. Larsen, and A. Watson: treasurer. Miss R. Brown; secretary, Mr W. A. Moir. An interesting item on the programme was the presentation by the president of the honours plaque to the superintendent of Shirley-Richmond Sunday school, which gained the highest percentage of marks in the recent assembly examinations. During the evening enjoyable items were given by the following: Misses Dodge and Hayward (duet), Mrs Gordon Thomson (songs). Mr J. R. Walters (recitation).
The final meeting for the year of the Fendalton Garden Club took the form of a party which was held at “Strathfield,” the home of Mr and Mrs W. S. Newburgh. Murray-Aynsley Hill. The hostesses were Mesdames Keith Newburgh. Keith Wallace, Peter Nicholls. and G. Pidgeon. The roses and Phoenix palms in the garden were particularly admired by the guests. The speaker was Mr B. P. Mansfield, who described gardens round the Mediterranean, with special reference to Palestine and the Garden of Gethsemane.
At a recent meeting of the Kindergarten Council Miss Audrey Cook was appointed director of the Sunbeam Kindergarten. The lady editor of “The Press” acknowledges receipt of magazines and a gift of money from Mrs Margaret Malcqlmson. Riccarton road, for patients in the sanatorium.
