Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a ridge of high pressure is advancing on to New Zealand from the west. A cold front is approaching frcm the south. Forecast to 5 p.m.: variable winds. Weather fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate. Further outlook: unsettled easterly conditions developing. WEST COAST ( The forecast for the West Coast of the ‘ South Island is:— Light to moderate westerlies predominating. Weather fair. Temperatures moderate to mild. Further outlook: weather deteriorating. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER • The weather in Christchurch after rain in the morning improved yesterday: afternoon, when it was fine and sunny, but the cold south-west wind still blew strongly. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was overcast and there was a faint west .breeze. The barometer at 30in (1015.9 millibars) was steady.
