BOXING

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION YEAR PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES When he became president of the asso-' elation, the first letter he saw was from a firm saying that unless its bill was paid within seven days proceedings would be taken against the association, said Mr G. W. Bettie, president of the Canterbury Boxing Association, at the annual dinner and presentation of trophies last evening. The last season had commenced with a debit, but now the finances of the assocition, excluding the proceeds from the New Zealand championship tournament, stood at £3BO. A member of the executive committee of the association, Mr J. Adams, said it was hoped to take a Canterbury team of amateur boxers on tour to the North Island next year. A brief outline of the tour, which would take between two to three weeks, was as follows:—commence at Wellington, then travel to Napier. Rotorua, Auckland, New Plymouth, and Hutt Valley. Special trophies won during the past season were presented as follows;—Fairburn Cup (outstanding boxer of the year): K. Murfitt. Thompson Shield (most successful trainer): G. Murfitt. Aranui Cup (most improved novice): R. Miller. A. H. Dale Challenge Cup (light-weight): N. Britt. Newburgh Cup (person rendering best service to boxing during year): R. Borgfeldt. Medal for most scientific boxer: J. Musson.
