NEW FLYING-BOAT FOR TASMAN
ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 29. The Auckland, the fourth and last Tasman class flying-boat ordered by Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., from Short Eros., Rochester, England, arrived at Auckland to-day to join the company’s trans-Tasman fleet. It should be ready for use in a few days. The aircraft was commanded during the flight from Poole, England, to Sydney by Captain Rose, of the British Overseas Airways Corporation, but on the Tasman crossing Captain D. W. G. Keesing, of Tasman Empire Airways, who with the engineering officer (Mr Goldie) went to England to take delivery of the aircraft and had acted as second pilot from Europe’ assumed command. The crew which flew the plane to Australia were replaced at Sydney by officers of the Tasman company and travelled to Auckland as passengers. They will return to England shortly. Fifteen passengers were carried from “Poole to Australia and four were carried on to New Zealand. Several other passengers were taken for the Tasman flight.
