MAJOR FARRAN
ISSUE OF WARRANT FOR ARREST
STAY OF PROCEEDINGS ORDERED (Rec. 7 p.m.) JERUSALEM, Oct. 28. The Attorney-General in Palestine (Mr L. B. Gibson) has ordered a stay of proceedings in connexion with the warrant issued by a Jerusalem magistrate for the arrest of Major R. A. Farran on a charge of abducting a 16-year-old Jew, Alexander Rubowitz. Mr Gibson, giving reasons for the stay of proceedings, said that he had insufficient evidence of an abduction. He had rechecked the fact of direct identification and had found that two witnesses had identified another officer in a line-up which-included Major Fan an, although this officer could not nave been concerned. There was evidence of finding a hat at the scene of the alleged abduction, but this was circumstantial and was inadmissible in criminal proceedings.
