LONDON, August 26. “I am confident that with due application of modern science, increased mechanisation, and well-founded confidence—which is the most potent of all fertilisers-—the land of Britain can yield, if we countrymen all pull our weight, at least one-third mere food than it ever did in pre-war days,” says Lord Bledisloe in a letter to “The Times.” Lord Bledisloe says that two crying needs which cannot be ignored if Britain’s countryside is to provide more food, are more phosphate manures for permanent pastures and a great increase in the sheep population.
