STRIKE ACTION ENDS MINERS’ CONTRACTS
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27. The North-east Division of the National Coal Board has announced that 2682 miners of the Grimthorpe colliery, Yorkshire, who struck on August 11, with a resultant loss of more than 40,000 tons of coal, have by their act terminated their contract of service. They may have their jobs back if they accept the decision of the joint sub-committee, increasing by two feet the area of coal face to be worked by each shift—the decision against which the men struck.
