LINER AGROUND NEAR PAPUA
DYNAMITE USED TO BREAK REEF (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 21. Dynamite is being used by the Navy to demolish portions of the reef on which the motor-ship Reynella has been aground in Jomard Strait since Monday. The Australian frigate Condamine, which is standing by, will make another attempt to free the ship when the demolition is completed. Since the Reynella struck the reef sh£ has not answered radio messages, and all information comes through naval channels. The tanker Cyrena, which the Condamine was trying to refloat before the Reynella ran aground, is still stranded south of Kitava Island, 160 miles away. A powerful tug is steaming to her aid from Singapore, and a Diesel tug, which has already made several attempts, is standing by. The Cyrena is considered safe. —— % Demolition In Berlin.—The biggest demolition since the war in the British sector of Berlin will take place on August 30, when Royal Engineers will blow up the 150 ft high ferro-con-crete anti-aircraft tower in the Tiergarten. About 50.0001 b of T.N.T. will be required for its destruction, and during the operation the streets will be cleared within a radius of 1000 yards. —Berlin. August 21. N.Z. Schoolboys’ Soccer Team.—The New Zealand schoolboys’ Association football teem lost the first game of its ; tour. 2-0 to Illawarra at Woollongang. ‘ after a game which provided the bast schoolboy football ever seen on the south coast.
