AUSTRIAN TREATY COMMISSION

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE RECALLED

(Rec. 9.20 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 20. Because of what the State Department described as the “general failure of the Soviet to collaborate in the Austrian Treaty Commission,” Mr Joseph Dodge, the American representative. on the commission, has been recalled to Washington immediately for consultation.

The Acting-Secretary of State (Mr Robert Lovett), in announcing this today, said that the United States was deeply concerned about the Soviet actions in the commission. A deputy would act for Mr Dodge in his absence.
