MEAT AND DAIRY PRODUCE
N.Z. NEGOTIATIONS WITH BRITAIN
TALKS TO BEGIN THIS MONTH (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, August 21. Mr Attlee’s request to New Zealand to keep down food prices as far as possible is expected to influence the negotiations for new meat and dairy produce agreements between the Dominion and the United Kingdom. These are to begin in London before the end of the month. Mr W. E. Hale, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, accompanied by Mr A. Ward, research adviser to the board, arrived this week to take part in the talks. Mr A. Linton, another member of the board, will arrive tomorrow.
The New Zealand representatives at the talks will be headed by Mr George Duncan, Director of the Export Marketing Division. Other members of the delegation will be Messrs H. E. Davis, London manager of the Marketing Division. L. C. Webb, Director of Stabilisation, who will fly from Geneva, where he has been representing New Zealand at the International Trade Organisation conference, S. A. Chisholm, London manager of the New Zealand Meat Board, and N. McClumpha, of the Meat Board’s London staff.
The New Zealand delegation which will attend the conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation ’in Geneva next week is now assembled in London and will leave for Geneva on Sunday. It comprises Messrs A. P. O’Shea, secretary of New Zealand Federated Farmers, J. White, of the New Zealand Department of Agriculture, and R. W. Marshall, New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Washington.
