TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

A FAST TRIAL SIR MICHAEL AND ABERHALL The Winter Handicap candidates, Sir Michael and Aberhall, were seen at their best when they worked over a mile and a half in 3rhin 15 l-ssec at Addington yesterday morning. Sir Michael, which had about four lengths start from Aberhall, covered the first two furlongs in 35sec, the half-mile in lmin 7sec, six furlongs in lmin 39sec, mile in 2min 12 4-ssec, mile and a quarter in 2min 45sec, and mile and a half in 3min 15 l-ssec. Aberhall finished close to Sir Michael and, a good stayer, he should race well over two miles to-morrow.

A high-class pacer by Dillon Hall from Moradine, Aberhall raced well at the national meeting last season to beat PreEminence in the Advance Handicap, his other seven placings for the season including wins in the Final Handicap and in the William Hayward Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup meeting. In the William Hayward Handicap Aberhall won going away from Plunder Bar and Acropolis in the smart time of 4min 20 l-ssec.

Sir Michael is not carrying as much condition as usual, and he should make a bold bid to secure his first success over two miles in the principal race to-mor-row. Given Barrier Practice

Sir Vivian, which is one of the favourites for the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes, was given barrier practice before working over a mile and a half in 3min 29sec, the last half-mile in lmin ssec.

Dundee Sandy indicated that he is near his best form by working over a mile and a half with Certainty in 3min 19sec, the last four furlongs in lmin 5 l-ssec. Dundee Sandy registered some fine performances last season. Although he is giving away starts of up to 36 yards, he must be conceded a chance in the Winter Handicap. Fast Half-mile

Loyal Peter and Turco, which were the first horses to work, covered a mile and a half in 3min 34sec, sprinting the last half-mile in lmin 4sec. Loyal Peter set the pace, and he hung on in determined manner when challenged by Turco in the straight. A son of Grattan Loyal and Erin’s Fortune, Loyal Peter was not able to show his best form in his heat at the matinee meeting at Addington on Tuesday. A sulky wheel buckled when he struck trouble in the running. Led All the Way

Beverley Volo her admirers when she set the pace for Willie Winkie and I’Amour over a mile and a half in 3min 30 2-ssec, the last half-mile in lmin 7 l-ssec.

Mickey Rooney finished level with Zulu after working over two miles in 4min 45sec, the last four furlongs in lmin 9sec. The trotters, Sure Money and Detour, worked with Mickey Rooney and Zulu.

Sure Money gave a solid display, but Detour marred his efforts by breaking. F. G. Holmes’s Team

Forewarned gave Golden Amazon and Cameronian two seconds start, and she finished level with them after covering a mile and a half in 3min 22 l-ssec. Golden Amazon set the pace for most of the way, covering the first quarter in 35sec, half-mile in lmin 9sec, and mile in 2min llsec. If Golden Amazon leaves the mark correctly in the Intermediate Handicap at. Addington to-morrow he should earn some of the prize-money. Jottings Dr. G. Hardwicke and Messrs C. B. R. Lawlor and J. D. Watts will leave Sydney by plane on October 21 to attend the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup meeting. Sky Raider, which is now in M. Holmes’s stable at Yaldhurst, is owned by Mr Lawlor, who hopes to see him in action at the meeting.

A. Purdom, who has been associated with V. Alborn’s stable at Addington for some time, has decided to set up as a public trainer at Riccarton.

G. M. Mouritz has Volometre looking well at Addington. A mare by Lusty Volo from Millimetre, Volometre is owned by -Mr C. Campbell. W. K. Tatterson is educating a three-year-old filly by Grattan Loyal from Light Wings, the dam of Emulous and Lightning Lady.

F. Young’s team at Methven includes a promising pacer in Uranium, which is by Grattan Loyal from Satin Queen, the dam of Battle Colours.

The following horses will be bracketed ori the totalisator at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington to-morrow:—lslington Handicap: Starshell and Right Royal. Heathcote Handicap: Direct Medium, Lady Vi and Absolutely; Limerick Pride and Checkmate, Mandrake and Snowflake. Winter Handicap: War Form and In the Mood. Nyallo Scott and Highland Fling. Speedway Handicap: Sprayman, Belhall, and Worthy Gold, Stimulant and Margaret Hall. Stewards’ Handicap: Mistydale and Rangefinder. Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes: Chief Officer and Congo Song, Gay Knight and Victory Globe. Lightning Free-for-All: Highland Fling and Nyallo Scott.

Nice Type Although she was obviously not ready to show her best form, Marcia gave a smooth performance to finish in fourth place in her division of the 2min 59sec pace at the matinee meeting at Addington on Tuesday. A four-year-old mare by Dillon Hall from Regal Lady, Marcia is trained at Addington by R. D. Kennerley for Mr H. W. Drewery. Track Banked

The banking of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s track at Victoria Park, Greymouth, which was commenced early in June, is now nearing completion. A total of 2700 yards of soil has been placed on the track. A bulldozer stripped the former top off the track and this was taken to the side and replaced after the new filling had been put in position. The fine weather during the last week has enabled the club to have the track rolled. A planing machine has been engaged in smoothing out the track and it should be in ideal condition for the forthcoming two-day meeting in October. The bulk of the new soil which has been placed on the track has been used to bank up the bends and there should be improved footbig all-round. The work has been carried out under the supervision of the president of the club (Mr James Steel) and the club is now assured of a really first-class track. Profitable Season

The Methven district has long been recognised as a nursery for light-harness horses, and owners, within a 10-ujile radius of Methven, again had a successful run in the 1946-47 season, winning £24,394 in stakes.

The following is the list of owners who won more than £200: M. McTigue £7045, C. V. May £6500, O. E. Hooper £2640, P. A. Watson £2235, F. Young £1875. G. McKendry £855, C. Nordquist £B4O, M. S. Turton £650, A. J. Wilson £3lO, J. Bland £541, A. J. Archibold £253. Gay Piper

Gay Piper, a racy-looking colt by U Scott from Festival, has done well on G. McKendry’s farm at Methven during the winter months, and he may develop into a good winner this season. A brother to a winner in Dunmore, Gav Piper’s three placings last season included a good effort to finish in second place to County Antrim in the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Ashburton on Boxing Day. Good-looking Pacer

After securing two minor placings in his first nine starts last season. On Approval was turned out for a spell because of a splint which was troubling him. A good-looking son of Jack Potts and Pauline Dillon, On Approval has done well during his spell and he looked in splendid order to commence a preparation when inspected on O. E. Hooper’s farm at Lauriston on Saturday. Reminders
