CHURCHILL TO MOVE AMENDMENT
CRITICAL DEBATE EXPECTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 7. Mr Churchill has tabled the official Opposition amendment to the Government motion on economic policy, which amounts,” says Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent, “to a motion of no confidence in the Government.” t The Government’s motion begins: 'That this House welcomes the laying before Parliament of the survey of the nation’s requirements and resources for 1947.” The Opposition amendment then adds: “And while recognising the ever increasing gravity of the economic crisis and willing to give its support to any practical measures tor meet it, regrets that the full facts of the situation have for so long been withheld irom the country, and has no confidence in the Government, whose actions hitherto have served only to aggravate the national difficulties and whose proposals for the future are ei t» er inadequate or injurious.” Mr Churchill will move his amendment on Wednesday. u _<The political correspondent of the Daily Express” says that lobby opinion is that the debate will be the most critical since the Government took office. A section of’the Labour Party is expected to speak against the Government, but will not vote against it.
