HELICOPTER CRASHES IN ANTARCTIC
CREW PICKED UP UNHURT
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK. Jan. 23. A helicopter crashed into the sea after taking off from the Byrd Expedition aircraft-carrier. Philippine Sea, in the Antarctic. The occupants were picked up unhurt. This is the expedition’s third aircraft loss. The first was the Mariner flvins-boat, which exploded on December 20 over Thurston Peninsula, killing three persons. The second was a helicopter lost on January 19 from the seaplane tender. Pine Island, without casualties.
