£l200 IN PAPER PACKAGES
DISCOVERY IN ROOM OF DEAD CHINESE Paper packages containing about £l2OO were found when police opened a ’locked room at 165 Madras street yesterday. The occupant. Gin Ming Oy, aged 54, married, a Chinese laundryman, was found lying dead on his bed. Gin Ming Oy lived alone, but there were several other Chinese tenants in the house. He was last seen alive at 3 a.m. on Monday. When he failed to answer a summons at the door the police were notified. About half of the money, which was found in various parts of the room was in New Zealand currency. There was about £6OO in American and Canadian dollars, English and Australian and Chinese money, as well as a good quantity of silver coinage. Gin Ming Oy was born in Canton and came to New Zealand when he was quite young. He returned to China twice, returning to New Zealand for the last time in 1922. He has a son at Cambridge in the North Island, and his wife is believed to be in China. It is believed that Gin Ming Oy died from natural causes. An inquest into his death was opened yesterday before the Coroner (Mr Raymond Ferner) and was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given.
