BOTANIC GARDEN—Cuningham House: a collection of tropical foliage and flowering plants is featured; in the gallery gloxinias, oleanders, clerodendron balfosri, atrjeptocarpus, gigantea, Bougainvilleas, begonias with, multicoloured coleus and ornamental foliage begonias are most conspicuous. Townend House: zonal and regal pelargoniums in a good range of shades, streptocarpus (Cape primrose), and standard fuchsias are grouped for display. There is also a collection of cacti and. succulents on exhibition. Bedding displays: all beds on the front lawns are. underplanted with neniesia, which presents a brilliant show ‘ht present. Nemesla, in separate colours, is featured in beds outside Cuningham House. To-morrow, the Christchurch Municipal Band will play selections on the archery lawn from 2.30 p.m. to 3.45 p.m. CANTERBURY MUSEUM, RoUeston avenue. SUMMIT ROAD, from Gebbie’s Pass to Evans Pass, through Kennedy’s Bush, panoramic view of Canterbury Plains. PUBLIC LIBRARY: reading room open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sundays. 2 to 5 p.m.; 7 to 9 p.m. Reference library: open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sundays, 2 to 5 p.m. PROVINCIAL COUNCIL CHAMBERS: this fine building in Gothic style was designed in 1865 by Mountfort, and is treasured as a memorial to the founders of the province. COUNTRY LIBRARY SERVICE. Second floor of the Christchurch Press Company’s building, Cathedral square: the service is primarily for country persons, including children, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Current displays are arranged, and there is an information section and reading room. The lending service is available to city residents through the inter-library loan scheme.
