LIBERAL LEADERS IN PARAGUAY

ARREST ON CHARGES OF SUBVERSION (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) ASUNCION (Paraguay), Jan. 23. A former Foreign Minister (Mr Justo Prieto) and several other Liberal Party leaders have been arrested on a charge of issuing a subversive manifesto. Mr Prieto is editor of the evening newspaper “El Pais,” which did not appear to-day. The Ministry of the Interior said the Libera] Party was plotting against the stability of the constituted order with known Communist leaders participating. The Liberal manifesto insulted the Presidential authority and tried to involve the . armed forces in political activities which did not concern them.
