Provisional recognition of the anpomtment of Mr Whitney Young as Consul of the United States at AuckGazette^ S (PA n ) tataed “ laSt nlght ’ s _ H- C. Hurst, president of the Ca ? t^ Chamber of Commerce, and Mr E. T. Beaven, vice-president, left last evening for Wellington to attend a meeting of the executive of the Associated Chamber# of Commerce. Mr C. R. McDougall, of the Rangiora blanch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to the Westport branch. He has been replaced by Mr J. A. McQueen, of the Christchurch branch. The appointment of Messrs Malcolm Alexander Cruickshank, Arthur Clifford Murdoch Ward, and Leslie Bond Robinson as members of the Fruit Marketing Council was announced in the Gazette last night.—(P.A.) Mr E. Sollitt, who is retiring after being in business at Christchurch for 14J years, was met by members of the canvas trades group of the Canterbury Manufacturers* Association yesterday and was given a presentation He has been chairman of that group and also its representative to the New Zealand Canvas Goods Manufacturers’ Federation ever since it was constituted. His association with the trade has lasted for 40 years. For 21 years he was employed by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Ltd., before entering business independently. Speakers yesterday paid many tributes to his work with the group.
