SPRINGFIELD

Sir,—Yes, “Ex-Resident of Springfield” has all the things he mentioned, including our beautiful Mount Torlesse, which through the years many artists have painted. There is also our famous Sleeping Beauty. He sounds very practical, but sentiment and love of one’s birthplace are essential in the progress of a community. Some years ago some travellers from Switzerland said to me. “Why don’t you get a sunshine recorder and nut your place on the map?” Mount Torlesse was well covered with snow at the time. Springfield has everything that would make of it a health and holiday resort. Several times people in cars have asked: “Can you tell us how far we are off Springfield?” But. sad to relate, we are unable proudly to say: “This is it.” —Yours, etc., OLD RESIDENT. January 21. 1947.
