FRIENDLY MATCH In a friendly cricket match at Hagley oval yesterday, “The Press” beat Police in the last over of the day. Police batted first and scored 148 for nine wickets, declared (N. Rouse 31, A. Chippendale 10, J. Francis 24, J. Archer 30; N. F. Archer two for 13, N. L. Macbeth four for 32, A. R. Cant one for 18, R. T. Brittenden two for 29). ‘The Press” scored 150 for nine wickets (E. I. Stoneman 19, Archer 13, Cant 44, Macbeth 22, G. A. Grimmer 21 not out: Chippendale two for 39, Francis two for 31, S. CANTERBURY COLTS TO PLAY WEST OLD BOYS The team of Canterbury Colts which recently played matches against Ashburton and South Canterbury is to play the West Old Boys senior team in a oneday match at Hagley Oval to-morrow. The West Old Boys team beat Technical on the first day of the senior competition round -which is to be completed tomorrow. WOMEN’S CRICKET AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON MATCH EXCITING FINISH LIKELY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 23. An exciting finish is likely in the fourth day’s play to-morrow for the Hallyburton Johnston Shield between the Wellington and Auckland women’s cricket tearhs. Wellington were 17 runs behind on the first innings and made 224 in their second innings, leaving Auckland with 208 to get for an outright win. At stumps Auckland had lost two wickets for 83 runs. Outstanding features of Wellington’s second innings were valuable contributions by Lamason, 64 not out. and J. Hatcher 59.
