Mr W. R. M. Stewart, who has. been manager of the Ashburton branch of the Union Bank of Australia for nine years, has been appointed manager of the bank’s New Plymouth branch and will leave Ashburton at the end of the month. He will be succeeded by Mr T. G. Parke, of Christchurch.
Mr B. J. McKenna was re-elected chairman of the executive committee of the Canterbury branch of the Venerable Order of St. John, at a meeting last evening. Mr J. H. Rhodes was re-elected deputy-chair-man. Other officers* elected were:— honorary solicitors, Messrs J. A. Flesher and Sons; honorary auditor, Mr P. C. Browne.
The guest speaker at the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association Tin Hat Club’s final gathering for 1946 was Mr R. V. White, manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd. Mr White gave an account of his experiences and impressions during his recent visit to Britain to attend the Empire Press Union conference. The appointment of Mr H. F. Page to the position of Chief Assistant Engineer to -the Christchurch Drainage Board was reported to a meeting of the board last evening.
