ELECTION LETTERS

Sir, —Will you please inform me why “The Press” and other newspapers do not print election letters on the day of the election. I notice two daily newspapers have done so. Thanking you.—Yours, etc., INQUIRER. Hokitika, November 30, 1946. [No letters are printed on election day because it might give an unfair advantage to correspondents supporting either side, who could make charges or statements on the last day, to which no opportunity could be given for reply. For the same reason we do not print reports of election addresses on election day.—Ed., “The Press.”]
