COMPLAINT ABOUT ’ALL BLACK SELECTION
AUCKLAND UNION ASKED TO SPECIFY CHARGES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 11. The Auckland Rugby Union is to be asked for specific charges in connexion with its expression of displeasure over the selection of the All Black side against Australia, the manner of its assembly, lack of opportunity for training, and the condition of jerseys and gear. This decision was reached by the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-day after consideration of a letter setting out the resolution carried by the Auckland Union, which also asked that the matter be investigated to ensure that there would be no repetition. ’’Without specific charges we cannot reply,” said the chairman, Mr 3. 3. Dean. Some complaints could be laid directly against the Auckland Union in its handling of the arrangements. The jerseys were brand new for the first test.
Mr L. Carmine inquired if the managers made any comment on these matters in their reports. Quoting from a newspaper report of the Auckland Union’s discussion, he said there had been a reference to second-class accommodation. That was in the hands of the Auckland Union.
Mr A. McDonald said he had made no reference to the matters raised by the Auckland Union* in his report. He considered that such publicity did no good, but since the New Zealand Union had been attacked, it was how essential to take a stand. ”1 will say the treatment we received in Auckland was the worst I have known.” said Mr McDonald. He did not see the Auckland manager until just on midday on the Saturday of the match. But for a newspaper report, they would have known nothing about entertOT the Payers. The greatest difficulty had been experienced in arranging for a practice. Criticism of the Auckland Union’s arrangements for receiving the team and transporting them to their hotel was also made by Mr McDonald, who added that the gear was In quite good order. ’we should have these matters dealt With in your renort.” said Mr Carmine. It was agreed that this course was necessary.
NO COMMENT FROM AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, NOV. 11. I have no comment to make, but the matter will doubtless be discussed at the next meeting of my committee.’’ said Mr C. L. Cherhey. chairman of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby union. When questioned on the New Zealand Union.'s criticism of the handling of the All Black team during its stay in Auckland.
