BERNBOROGH’S INJURY
(Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 11. X-ray photographs of Bernborough’s injury reveal that the sesamoid bone is chipped slightly and that the attachments to the sesamoid have pulled away under the strain of galloping. Bernborough is doing as well as expected, and is still a perfect patient.
A Well-bred Filly Sweet Chime (owned by Mr Percy Miller), the winner of the V.R.C. Oaks at Flemington on Saturday (her third success at the meeting), will be a valuable addition to her owner’s already large collection of ifaares when she retires to the stud. She is a well-bred filly, being by Le Grand Due, a three-quarter brother by Blenheim to Bulandshar from Korimako, by Magpie from Joy Bells, by Comedy King from the imported mare Joyeuse, by Bayardo from Joie de Vivre, by Gallinule. Joie de Vivre was the grand-dam of Lackham (a fairly successful sire in New Zealand for several years) and of Grand Knight, a good imported horse that won the Great Easter-Great Autumn Handicap double. Joy Bells was a sister to Mimetic. an Australian-bred horse that sired a few winners here. Sweet Chime has some splendid staying lines in her pedigree, and it is little wonder that she stays so well.
