PRISONER OF WAR’S THANKS
Sir, —In his address last evening at the Christmas party in the Cashmere Senatorium Dr. Macintyre mentioned that several patients had been discharged before time in order to provide accommodation for prisoners of war returning from the Far East. Until the doctor’s speech I was ignorant of that sacrifice, which had been made- for men like myself, a sacrifice which I now appreciate all too well; and it is with real, heartfelt gratitude that I convey to those discharged persons my sincerest thanks. I know; I shall always feel a strong link with, and a deep friendship for, the Dominion, where an overwhelming number of kindnesses such as this have been accorded us ever since our arrival. My thanks will always be inadequate, but with simple gratitude I would like to say, “Thank you, New Zealand, God bless.”—Yours, etc., LIEUT. S. F. ARMSTRONG. British Army. December 13, 1945.
