The president of the branch, Mr John Montgomery, on behalf of members, presented a teaset to Mr J. A. Sandle, honorary ac-j oustical engineer, who has wired the group aid and serviced the audiometer for the branch, and has also carried out hearing aid tests to enable deaf persons to decide if they can use hearing aids satisfactorily, and, if they can do so, to help them to obtain the most suitable type of hearing aid. To Miss E. Rowntree, assistant lip-reading teacher, Mr Montgomery also made a presentation on behalf of members of the two classes that she teaches. Miss Marjorie Sykes, representing the Young People’s group, presented Miss E. Ash, director of the branch, with a bouquet and a Christmas gift, and Miss Rowntree with a bouquet. WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

Riccarton. —Members of the Riccarton Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union met at the home of the president. Mrs R. A. Ambrldge, for their Christmas party, which was most enjoyable. Final arrangements were made for the garden party to be held this week. Mrs B. O’Neill presented Mm Ambridge with a gift and thanked her for her willing cooperation and for the use of her home for the knitting circle, at which members knitted for the Navy and Merchant Navy for many years.
