ALLEGED CONVERSION OF CAR

P l tona , at a s P® ed exceeding 60 miles an hour, two youths were .stopped by the police at Waiapu bridge at 1.30 yesterday driving a black sedan car which had previously been reported missing from Paeroa earlier in_ the day. The two vouths, who feave their names as Robert Stanley Juices tone and Robert Bruce Hill,. both aged 18. appeared before a Justice of the Feace at Ruatona and were charged with tne ' unlawful conversion of the motorcar a*id remanded to appear at Gisborne. During the chase by police officers and * Transport Department inspector, it was stated, full bottles of beer .were thrown from the fleeing car in an attempt to stop pursuit. In the dash through townships in the Bay of Plenty, the car was driven at speed? up to 70 miles an hour, and at one point tore through a mob of cattle on a wild, zig-zag course. A Ruatona police officer, armed with a revolver. effectively blocked the bridge, forcing the fugitives to pull up.
