CHEAP ATLANTIC AIR FARES

• *_— LONDON, October 17. Pan American Airways announces that its bi-weekly land-plane service between New York and London will start on Saturday. Douglas D.C.4's, known as Skymasters during the war, carrying 36 passengers, will be used. The single fare will be £69 sterling, and return £124 sterling. This is little more than the first-class steamer fare, and compares with the single fare of British Overseas Airways Corporation of £142 sterling for the summer route, and £l9B sterling single, and £323 sterling return, for the winter route by way of the Azores and Bermuda.

British Overseas Airways Corporate., fares are fixed by the Government. It is clear that if the British Overseas Airways Corporation is to compete with American companies on the Atlantic route there will need to be a drastic reduction in British fares.
