WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION
Halswell.—A talk on Japanese customs was given v by Miss Trott, the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Halswell branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. Miss Trott has been a teacher in Japan for more than 30 years. Mrs Chapman presided, and the hostesses were Mesdames Brake, Sparks, and Candy. A parcel of goocfcs and 25s were handed in for the Appeal for Lepers. Results of competitions were as follows:—peach jam: Mrs Gardiner 1, Mrs Rogers 2, Mrs Silvester 3. Specified bloom: Mrs Candy 1. Mrs Silvester 2, Mrs Brake 3. Single bloom: Mrs Ell 1, Miss Pike 2, Mrs Talbot 3. Spike or cluster: Mrs Silvester 1, Mrs Colenso 2, Mrs Gardiner 3. Styx.—"Home Economics" was the subject of an address given by Miss McKie at a recent meeting of the' Styx branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. Competition winners for the month were Mesdames Swallow, C. Smith, and B. Turner.
