Air Marshal the Hon. Sir Ralph Cochrane. Air Officer Commanding the R.A.F Transport Command, arrived at Ohakea yesterday afternoon from Sydney on Transport Command business. He was New Zealand's first Chief of the Air Staff and played an important part in the development of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He came to New .Zealand by arrangement between the New Zealand and British Governments in 193G to advise on air defence, and his recommendations were the basis of the Air Force Act, 19,37, and the Air Department Act passed the same year,— (P.A.) Parachute Descent on Berlin.—The United Stales 82nd Air-borne Division fulfilled its pledge that one day, in peace or war, it would jump on Berlin. A group of 91 officers and men. mostly veterans of North Africa. SicUy, and Anzio, parachuted from aeroplanes on to a potato patch in Berlin's Neueklon district.— London, August 22.
