Station Officer E. A. Dowell, who has completed 25 years’ service with the Christchurch Fire Brigade, was presented with a gold star at a meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board last evening. Fireman F. J. Williams, who recently returned from overseas service and who was 18 years with the brigade, was presented with two service medals.
The election of two graduates’ representatives on the Canterbury University College Council will be held on June 4. The nominations which closed last Monday are as follows:—Lieutenant D. J. M. Glover, R.N.Z.N.V.R., Mr t>. J. Hewitt, Mr R. J. W. Rastrick, and Mrs S. G. Young (sitting member). The result of the election will be announced on June 11. Other representatives elected unopposed are:—Mr W. J. Cartwright (teachers’ electoral roll); Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P. (Parliamentary electoral roll); and Mr W. T. Langley (school committees’.electoral roll). Mrs A. B. Simpson has been reappointed by his Excellency the GovernorGeneral.
