HAMILTON TAXI-DRIVERS ON STRIKE
(P.A.) HAMILTON, January 18. Drivers of the Checker Taxi-cab Company, Hamilton, are on strike as a protest against certain conditions or their employment. Officials of the Auckland Drivers Union are in Hamilton, but conferences of the parties have so far been abortive. „ ~ The drivers object to the deduction from commission payments of the cost of repairing cars damaged in accidents. Mr L. G. Matthews, secretary of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, and Mr F. D. Muller, organiser, arrived last night in the hope of negotiating a settlement. It is believed that there is little likelihood of the dispute spreading.
