RECREATION HUT

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED It is now three years since the Church of England hut was opened at a large military camp near Christchurch, On the anniversary last week a concert was arranged by Mrs W. Wilson, and at its conclusion the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. A. K. Warren) spoke of the work undertaken by the Church Army in New Zealand. Dean Warren recalled the early days of the war, before the building of the hut (which was built with funds provided by Church of England people and is now maintained by the National Patriotic Fund Board), when there was only a marquee. After thanking the 1560 voluntary helpers from Christchurch parishes who had given their services. Dean Warren expressed his appreciation of the work done by Captain Harris since the outbreak of war. On behalf of the staff. Captain Harris presented a photograph of the chapel to Mrs Algar Williams, in recognition of her services to the hut.
