SALVAGE OF DISUSED PARS

MEASURES TAKEN IN BRITAIN (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 4. The Ministry of Works is breaking up 250,000 disused motor-cars in the next 18 months for war weapons. Car breakers throughout Britain are already dealing with 1500 vehicles a week. It is estimated that after the removal of spare parts for re-use, the vehicles will yield 20,000 tons of iron and steel, 500 tons of cast aluminium, 100,000 tyres for retreading, 125 tons of rubber for reclaiming, and 250 tons of textiles.
