GRADE I MEN

Sir,—l was intrigued by a letter signed “Blue Peas” in “The Press” today. I should very much like the writer to inform me just what was his object in writing. Is he jealous of these grade I men who are working overtime? Apparently he is a clock-watcher and the foreman is glad to see the back of him at 5 o’clock. My husband is in a grain store, too, and he gets more overtime than he wishes for. He is not grade I—more like grade 7. Anyway, why has “Blue Peas” got his knife into these grade 1 men? Surely they are doing a good war effort by getting food ready for the Homeland and the troops. If “Blue Peas” gets these men pushed out (and that, it seems, is what he wants) he will have to work a good deal harder than he does at present if the store is shorthanded. However, perhaps it is the nature of the beast and he cannot bear to see someone getting more than he is.—Yours, etc., MRS GREENFEAST. March 8, 1943.
