SENTENCES FOR DESERTION
— * — TWO SOLDIERS SENT TO PRISON (P.A.I WELLINGTON. January 19. Sentences on two soldiers of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force who pleaded guilty to desertion before District Courts Martial at Trentham on Friday, were promulgated to-day. Sapper Kenneth Dudley Walker, Divisional Engineers, who deserted from Maadi, Egypt, on April 2, 1941, and was arrested by the Australian Military Police in Sydney on December 12. 1941. was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Private George Henry Gardner. New Zealand Medical Corps, who deserted at a port if call on February 17, 1941, and was arrested by the Australian Military Police in Sydney on December 13, 1941, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
