WAR IN PACIFIC LONDON, December 15. The Japanese in Malaya are reported to have crossed the narrowest part of the peninsula to Point Victoria, the southernmost point of Burma. Landing on the east side of the Kra I Ihmus, the Japanese worked 'heir way across to Point Vic- ; oria, whose airfield lies halfway between Singapore and Rangoon, 1100 miles apart. It is rot, known whether the British jnrrison still holds the town and the airfield, but if the airfield becomes involved in the fighting air communications between Burma and Singapore may be affected. It is learned in London that very heavy fighting continues in North Malaya, and casualties on iN.fh sides may be heavy. There bos been some slight British withdrawal on the Kedah part of the front. It is also learned in London that in the fighting for Hong Kcng British forces are withdrawing from Kowloon, on the mainland, to the island.
