INDECENT ASSAULT CHARGES
— « WAN SENTENCED IN SUPREME COURT
Appearing for sentence on five charges of indecent, assault on a male, to which he had pleaded guilty, Patrick Michael Miilcahy was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention by Mr Justice Northcroft in the Suppreme Court yesterday. For the prisoner. Mr T. A. Gresson said that Mulcahy was about to enter military service, and was of a type that would probably respond to the change of environment. As a student teacher, he had abused a trust placed in him, and the offences were serious. He was only 22 years of age. At Le Son’s Bay, where the offences occurred. he had found little opportunity for recreation and games. The duty of the Court was clear, said his Honour. Mulcahy must be sent to prison as a deterrent to himself and a warning to the boy. The prisoner had dishonoured his profession and brought discredit on other teachers, particularly those in country districts. He had abused the confidence of his host, and had corrupted the boy.
