LIST OF EMERGENCY RATIONS
SUPPLIES OF THE GREATEST FOOD VALUE
Information of rations most suitable for storing in case of evacuation or confinement because of an emergency has been prepared by the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand’s Women’s Food Value League. The list of commodities has been designed to include supplies of the greatest food value which also maintain a proper balance in diet, and are easily packed. Most of the commodities will keep indefinitely. The foods recommended are:—Oatmeal, brown rice, wholemeal flour, dried skim milk, dried whole milk, dried beans, tomato juice, clarified fat or tinned butter, cod-liver oil, iodised salt, tinned or wellwrapped cheese, sugar, tea, treacle, baking powder, dried yeast, potatoes, unsweetened wholemeal biscuits, cocoa, chocolate, dried fruits, coffee, nuts, tinned fish, or meat if desired. It is pointed out that food supplies will be arranged under the Emergency Precautions Services, but the above provisions should be stocked to meet any temporary dislocation of transport.
