MAORI PILOT IN R.A.F.

_—4 ■ FIRST RAIDS MADE OVER GERMANY

(F.0.0.C.) LONDON, September 30. The first Maori pilot to serve with the Royal Air Force in Britain has carried out his first raids over Germany. He is Sergeant P. Pohe (Taihape), who reached England m May with a draft of men trained in New Zealand. He is flying a Whitley heavy bomber. ..... The various aircraft which the other pilots in this same draft are now flying give an interesting example of how New Zealanders are seeping into every branch of the Royal Air Force. Sergeant Pilots G. Fish and E. Carpenter (both Aucklanders), and L. Ford (Wellington) are flying Spitfires. Pilot Officer E. Campbell (WanganuO is flying a Beaufighter and Sergeant Pilot J. Gunn (Gisborne) is attached to a squadron using American Havocs. Pilot Officer E. Edmunds (Wellington) is piloting a Blenheim in daylight raids. , , Several pilots are on operations in Hampdens: Sergeant Pilots M. Cullinane (Wanganui), B. Reid (Auckland), S. Black (Wellington), 1 and S. Crowhurst. P. Duff, and M. White (all of Hamilton).
