DICKENS FELLOWSHIP MEETING
♦ The Christchurch branch of the Dickens Fellowship held its meeting on Saturday evening. Miss R. L. Dearsley presided. The evening’s programme, arranged by Mrs L. J. Morris, was devoted to the presentation of readings from Dickens's novels. The best wishes of members of the fellowship and their appreciation of his active participation in the programmes arranged were extended by Mr C. T. Aschman to Second-Lieuten-ant A. J. D. Dearsley on his departure for Papakura camp.
Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Waikuku Beach > Improvement Association were as follows: President, Mr H. F. Richardson; vicepresidents, Messrs D. W. Edmonds and P. Hand; committee, Messrs J. E. Strachan, R. H. Carpenter, L. Harper, R. Naisbitt, W. Wise. Lockhart and Ozanne; auditor, Mr J. M. Fraser; secretary, Mr L. W. Harley. The balancesheet recorded a loss of £76 10s 6d on the year's working, after £l7O had been granted to patriotic purposes and £37 17s 2d to the Welcome Club. Proceeds from the annual gala totalled £449 5s Id,
