— « — SPEECH TO MILLIONS
CLUB
(Received June 20, 1.15 a.m.) (U.p.A.) '• SYDNEY, June 19. The New Zealand Minister for National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) was to-day the &uest of the Millions Club at a luncheon. He delivered an address on the Dominion’s war effort. He declared that democracy was at the crossroads and civilisation in the melting pot. Eve ■ man must put forward every ounce of strength and every copper he possessed. He emphasised that liberty, the spice of life, is ii jeopardy. The Divine Master soon would check the kind of conduct going on over England, which was resulting in the mass murder of women and children. He thanked God for Mr Roosevelt, and appealed to Australians to make a vow that they would die on their ankissed hills before they would surrender to the German monster of iniquity. There are only two roads, he said, one which Herr Hitler is travelling, and the other which all freedomloving people are travelling. He would rather go down to dreamless dust than submit to tyranny of any kind. . , Mr Semple paid a tribute to the help Australia is giving New Zealand, and said he would return satisfied that thespirit and soul of the people are sound He was also convinced that the development of war industries in Australia was phenomenal and wonderful.
