MOTOR TRADE RAFFLE

♦ ' ' NEARLY £3OOO ALREADY RAISED Nearly £3OOO has at present been collected as a result of the raffle which is being conducted by the Allied Motor Trade for the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Fund, 'ihere are seven prizes in the raffle, as follows:—A 10 horsepower Ford 4-door saloon car, an 8 horsepower Morris saloon car, a Rolls dual-wave radio set, a set of Goodrich car tyres, two bicycles, and a motor-car fog lamp. The sale of tickets in the raffle will end on Friday, and the draw will take place the following Wednesday in the committee room of the City Council Chambers. The chairman of the raffle committee (Mr W. Holmes) emphasised yesterday the purpose of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Fund, which, he said, was primarily to see to the welfare of troops overseas, to rehabilitate them on their return, and to take care of their defendants. The personnel of the fund committee included the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarl'ane, M.P.), the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast), chairmen of cqunty councils and public bodies, and mayors of the more important boroughs. Mr Holmes said that some confusion existed in the public mi s u as ~° the func tion of the fund, and he wished everyone to realise the worthy object for which the appeal was being conducted.
