A salute of 100 rifle shots was fired over the" grave by Maoris when tne remains of Mr Tau Henare, for years member of Parliament for Northern Maori, were interred at Motatau yesterday. . Undaunted by flood waters covering the narrow access road to the nearly 2000 people attended the nui. The hearse and a motor-bus conveying relatives succeeded in negotiating the water, but more than 1000 mourners walked along the railway ImeP the cemetery gates, where they waitea for the arrival of distinguished southern visitors on the express. Messages of condolence included one. from the Hon. F. Langstone, on benau: of the Cabinet, and from the Hon. A. Hamilton for the National Party. Canon Cherrington, assisted by four Maori clergy, conducted the service.
