OBITUARY
MR W. E. ROGERS Mr Walter Ernest Rogers, secretary of the Christchurch Gas Company, died on Saturday at the age of 53. Mr Rogers had served the company for about 34 years, and became secretary five years ago. Mr Rogers was bom irt Christchurch, the son of Mr and Mrs E. A. Rogers. He was educated at the Amberley School, after which he worked as a clerk with city firms, including the New Zealand Farmers* Co-operative Association, before joining the Gas Company. He married Miss Constance Nome, of Christchurch. Keenly interested in sport, Mr Rogers played cricket in the senior grade for St. Albans, and was for many years an office-holder and player with the old Addington Hockey Club. He represented Canterbury at hockey, and was for some years sole provincial selector. In latter years he was a keen golfer, and was a member of the committee of the Harewood Golf Club. . _ . Mr Rogers held high office m the Masonic Order. He was a Past Master of the Robert Burns Lodge, and was at one stage Provincial Grand Director* of Ceremonies. He is survived ■by Mis Rogers, a son, Mr W. N. Rogers, and a daughter, Miss Patricia Rogers, both of Christchurch. The funeral will take place to-day at the Bromley Cemetery.
