EFFICIENCY IN OFFICERS
AIM OP SPECIAL MILITARY FORCE (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, September 30. Addressing officers and non-commis-sioned officers for that part of the Special Force to be trained at Trentham, Colonel A. E. Puttick, O.C. Central Military District, said that war demanded efficiency, especially efficiency in leaders. “We need have no doubts about the quality of the men,” he said. “They will be equal to any in the world and there is therefore the necessity that leaders should, as far as possible, measure up to the same heights. “So far as I have any part in this force, I would like to make it quite clear that no considerations whatever, other than those of efficiency in the officers and the non-commissioned officers, will have any influence on me, but if, in my opinion, an officer or a non-commissioned officer is not up to the standard required, I shall have no hesitation whatsoever in taking him away and substituting a better man.”
