WOMEN’S TEMPERANCE UNION
CHRISTCHURCH* BRANCH Miss C. Henderson presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. A special welcome was extended to members of the ShirleyEichmond branch, and Mesdames Cooper and Miller. A motion o’f sympathy was passed with Mrs Suckling, in the death of her sister. The following resolution was passed; “That in the opinion of the meeting ‘wet’ canteens in camps would not be to the best interests of the men.” To celebrate Franchise Day and also the centenary of the birth of the founder of the temperance movement, Frances Willard, the president gave an interesting address on the life and character of this outstanding American woman. Miss Henderson also spoke of Frances Willard’s work as the first president of the International Council of Women. During the afternoon songs were sung by Mesdames Winder and Hay. Do not hesitate!
